My original goal was to build the entire bike sans wheelset for <1000, but I went over that limit a little bit. I don't think that many people will see the bike as one worth the price I paid (seeing as how it has old generation components, although new) and might wonder why I didn't just go purchase a complete bike with say a comparable current-generation groupset.

I'd tell them to fuck off.

Just kidding, but the reason why I didn't want to buy a complete was because more than anything, I appreciate the ability to build something of my own. There's something so generic about buying a bike in a box. Even if I do get to "assemble" it, I can't go out and source the parts that I want. I guess it's kinda making things a little too easy, and there's no accomplishment from that. After buying complete track bikes, and then moving towards building them frame up with other components, I've learned that understanding the mechanics behind every part of your bike allows you to become more connected with it, more immersed in being "one with the bike" -- at least for me.
